As Mars enters Sagittarius we all enter the open plains for 40 days and 40 nights now looking for the positive, yearning for independence and demanding the truth.
Mars love a good fight, and whilst it was in Scorpio (Mars in Scorpio - What Lies Beneath) some of the weapons used were the twin barrels of control and intimidation.
The Scorpio Martian muscles were flexed and felt through global events such as the ongoing bloody tragedies in Syria and Libya. Relations between Hungary and Armenia turned black as Armenia broke off relations with Hungary for allowing Azerbaijan to extradite a man convicted of murdering an Armenia officer with an axe in cold blood while he slept. What made it worse was on his return he was pardoned, promoted, given an apartment and 8 years back pay and treated as a national hero. Azerbaijan also holds its gas supplies to certain parts of Eastern Europe to ransom and this 'Safarov case' may have to be negotiated by the EU in order to secure peace in the Caucasus, very close to Turkey and Iran and on the border of Europe and Asia.
Various economies, budgets and fiscal polices were announced in Portugal, prompting resentment and protests that also occurred in Spain and Argentina. Meanwhile Brazil cut its energy tax, and the Constitutional court in Germany gave its approval to the European Stability Mechanism. Elections in Angola were won again by the dominant ruling Popular Movement for the Liberation of Angola (MPLA) but the oppositions suggesting that the results were unfair again setting up a potential time-bomb.
Grips were continually being tightened as Hilary Clinton designated the Haqqani network, an Afghan militant group with ties to the Taliban, a 'foreign terrorist organisation' setting up sanctions and blacklisting with probable retaliations. Cuba increased a duty on excess baggage shooting prices sky high. In Egypt the newly elected Muslim Brotherhood wants to push through tough policing powers as just the start of 'new measures'.
Over in Sri Lanka two jobs for ‘hangman’ were advertised by the prison service as crime rates increase but women were asked not to apply as their emotions may get the better of them, despite the fact that no one has been executed for over 3 decades.
Grips were lightened a bit as Kosovo celebrated the end of supervised independence and Myanmar gave amnesty to 514 prisoners. Under Mars in Scorpio’s watch these political land-mines waited to be activated or diffused and the list continued relentlessly to pile up. In Hong Kong the pro-China Democratic Alliance for the Betterment and Progress of Hong Kong, remained the leading party in the coalition but got it knuckles rapped as protestors showed intolerance to a back-tracking of human rights, damaging scandals, incestous relationships between officials and business, pollution and covert interventions from Beijing damaging public trust. Old wounds opened and tensions also started to mount between the countries in the South China Seas, especially China again, Japan and subsequently dragging in the USA. (Disputed waters in the China Seas)
Now with Mars spurred on and racing in with Sagittarius, tensions have already escalated, there is violence
between Syria and Turkey which unfortunately lead to fatalities and political rhetoric has increased in decibels. Turkey's Cardinal Mars is at 7 degrees Libra and it's Ascendent also occupies a Cardinal point, 7 degrees Cancer. Turkey's Prime Mister is pro-Islamic but is also aligning his country with western democracy as he has seen it's economy grow. No surprise then that reported on the 11th October 2012 Turkey forced a Syrian plane flying over its territory on its way from Moscow to Damascus to land at Ankara. First reports said that some military communications equipment and/or missile parts was then taken away from the plane in an effort to stop any assistance being made to the Syrian regime. What's being stated now is that there were munitions on a passenger plane obviously a violation but no ideas as to how Turkey got this information in the first place.
We are seeing and will continue to see many borders issues with either borders opening, closing or related transgressions. Syria announced on 13th October 2012 that it was banning Turkish civilian flights over its territory in retaliation for Turkey's actions intercepting munitions from Russia on the civilian flight to Syria. Turkeys Prime Minister has also rebuked the UN security council for inaction.
Greece again responded to further austerity measures with violent protests as Angela Merkel visited the country. Merkel is being blamed for trying to control the Greek economy and subjected to extreme jibes. She is holding onto to the ideal of a united Europe.
Greece however has recently been labelled a 'kleptrocracy' with accusations of rich Greeks depositing at least a trillion euros in Swiss Banks and the EU it is suggested is being maligned for not making the bail out fast enough. Greece is also accused of accepting no responsibility for the accumulated losses of several generations of self-indulgent Greeks who avoided any responsibility including paying tax. Those who claim to pay tax don't know how to repair their economy now aggressively drawing comparisons to the nazi regime during the protests. The Mars in Sagittarius stampede for justice will continue. The Sagittarius Mars will need to be right both sides of the line.
Facing the future what else can we expect of Mars as it takes over the reins in Sagittarius?
Perhaps we need to look no further than the obvious areas where we can already see fighting over un-trammeled freedoms or the withholding or reduction of civil and human rights such as the denial of freedom of speech.
In Afghanistan on the 9th October 2012, Malala Yousafzai was shot in the neck and head by the Taliban who opened fire on her school bus.
She was known for her education and women's rights activism and is still in a critical condition. She started posting anonymously on the BBC Urdu blog at age 11, using the name 'Gul Makai' to hide from the Taliban but already felt threatened. 'I was afraid going to school because the Taliban had issued an edict banning all girls from attending schools....Only 11 students attended the class out of 27... On my way from school to home I heard a man saying 'I will kill you'. I hastened my pace and after a while I looked back if the man was still coming behind me.' 2009
The 10th October 2012 was International Day of the Girl and highlighted a time when the Taliban not only claimed responsibility for the attack on Malala but also stated ' that anyone following a similar path will also be targeted. and that if Malala recovered she would not be spared. A Taliban spokesman also stated that the young peace campaigner was targeted because she 'promoted secularism and so-called enlightened moderation. This was a new chapter of obscenity, and we have to finish this chapter..obligatory to target someone who leads a campaign against Islam and Sharia'. Her father, Ziauddin Yousufzai, the head of a girls school is also on the Taliban hit list for encouraging his daughter and speaking out.
The Sagittarius religious fervour comes to the field of battle with the Sagittarius teacher and the Sagittarius law maker and bringers of justice and rogue justice.Various economies, budgets and fiscal polices were announced in Portugal, prompting resentment and protests that also occurred in Spain and Argentina. Meanwhile Brazil cut its energy tax, and the Constitutional court in Germany gave its approval to the European Stability Mechanism. Obviously other religious and ethical dilemmas and their effects on human rights will also come racing to the fore during Mars in Sagittarius times. Against hysterical rants and threats from fundamentalists, Ulster will open a full sexual and reproduction awareness clinic from the 18th October 2012. It provides women with sexual advice, treatments, education on safety and family planning, support and the right to choose a termination if faced with a crisis pregnancy. Women's rights to decide their own reproduction rights are provided in the rest of the UK where women from Northern Ireland have previously had to travel on order to get any help. The Catholic Eire, just over the border to the south is very twitchy that women will not have to travel quite so far in order to be able to use this type of clinic.
Exploration and new boundaries or pushing the boundaries will make the headlines in all its many forms such as speed records. One spectacular record, already planned and only postponed due too high a wind speed, but due to go on the 14th October 2012 will belong to Austrian Felix Baumgartner. If winds allows, 'Fearless Felix' in the desert near Roswell, New Mexico will be going for the highest and fastest free fall jump. He will be jumping from 120,000 feet or 23 miles up wearing a custom made fully pressurised suit. he will get up to that height in a pressurised capsule held up by a 30 million cubic foot helium ballon, 335 feet tall/inflated. He expects to accelerate to 690 mph and will break the sound barrier travelling at Mach 1 between 102,000 feet and 107,000 feet up.(Saturn in Scorpio - Death Defying Limits)

Another sort of record has just awarded by the Guinness Book of Records for being the oldest teacher. It turns out to be a Catholic priest from a Sydney junior school. He still walks to work daily and apparently has a job for life and will be 100 on 23rd December 2012.
Well Sagittarius has the symbol of the Archer and will want to choose a target, chase a target or at least sense the hint of a trail to follow and then relentlessly pursue. Sagittarius is also the symbol of the Centaur, the mythical creature, half human, half horse. The Centaurs mind and soul is on higher things and it does not care for
artificial boundaries, synthetic, manufactured laws that can be open to abuse and cardboard facsimiles of democratic governments.
It cares about the bigger picture. Natural laws, organic expression, freedoms, civil liberties, independence and the
upholding of a moral and ethical viewpoint.
It wants to educate, its wants to teach and it wants us to understand in order that we can educate by example. Despite its four legs built to move
and run, the Centaur likes nothing better than to have a standpoint. The Centaur needs to have its feet firmly on the ground, it needs to connect with the earth it loves to roam the world and is fully concerned with earthly matters but always with an eye on the sky and an idealism that aims for the stars and nothing less at best but is out and out fanatical at worst. Mars in Sagittarius is
evangelical in its need to teach and preach and will happily perch upon a soapbox
to proselytise and send out its messages, gangly four legs and all.
Are these new Martian arrows of fire weapons any good then? Where Mars in Scorpio may have snarled, threatened, baited and intimidated whilst waiting its turn to stealthily strike. Will Mars in Sagittarius just as actively, simply mount a charge, energetically strike hard, fire off more than a few warning missives and rear up when threatened? Will it use religious or moral ‘righteousness’ to back up and justify acts of aggression or defence? Will everything just become a philosophical heated debate and a polemic fired fight? Is this all going to end up simply becoming a huge war of words? Or will fire, explosives, rocket and turbine fuelled adrenaline push us through all our previous boundaries and make us all leap forward? Yes, to most of that is the likely answer. Burning flags, red-hot zeal, and inflamed passions are all part of this fiery mix. Raise the standards or bring them down.
Sagittarius is also about broadening the mind, gaining new perspectives and looking at the big picture but Mars will not want to understand why but just do or die. The pen may well be doing battle with the sword on more fields of play than we expect with a lot more angst and internal struggles existing for both Mars and Sagittarius than we normally associate with both. One persons liberation is another persons subjugation. One groups philosophy may lead another groups genocide.

Check out your Sagittarius zone in your own chart. This area will need to burn off the accumulated dross and things that are weighing you down. Bunsen burner or blow torch the method applied will be your own but the issues involved won’t go away or be ignored. If you are born with a Sagittarius Mars then prepare to get a whole lot louder and forceful in getting your message across. Again, Dressage or Eventing you choose the course, the timing and the discipline style. If Sagittarius is on your 5th zone then get ready to 'face the feral' because your kids could take rowdy to a new level so keep up with those wild foals and their need for adventure. Your own recreation may even take on a more sporty turn and your fun and creative side gets to stretch and be a little bit more active and experimental.

Sagittarius is a ‘mutable’ sign so it adapts and adjusts at the speed of light anyway. It can generate other options fast so things may change swiftly for good and bad with the current addition of Mars. Whereas Scorpio is fixed and entrenched, Sagittarius will happily be flexible and adjust. As the symbol shows us it is both human and animal and a mythical creature to boot! How versatile is all that? With the head of a human it is always possible to appeal to reason just don’t try and talk to its back-end or out yours.
Regardless of the steed, Trojan, Unbridled, Crazy, Maverick, Noble, Wild or motorised we all have to mount up and ride it out as we are all world eventing and using horse power on our journeys for the next 40 days.
