79 in March 2013, Feminist/Activist Pioneer Gloria Steinem has Mars in Aries 'The truth will set you free but first it will piss you off' (with Dorothy Pitman Hughes) |
While Mars is here, bursting with energy and keen to expend it, it’s sheer will power and self belief will thrust its metaphorical sword into the first fight or challenge it sets its beady sheep’s eye on, which can either hasten trouble or quash it instantly. This immediately leads us to imagine that Mars in Aries signals an increase in war and strife or at least the threat of it. Whilst rash and impulsive, Aries also rules the head, and most Ariens are clever and tactical. However Mars rules Aries, and as such 'Fight!' may over rule 'Think!'
During its stay in Aries, Mars hurtles, rushes and charges about the place, being ever-so-busy doing ‘all these very important tasks’ to the extent that it just might forget to stop and question the efficiency of its actions and behaviours. At heart it desperately wants to do good and help, even change the world, so it will be with some sorrow to actually acknowledge that the opposite effect has occurred. Here Mars is ‘suited and booted’ in all its metal armour with weapons honed, tempered and sharpened, surely all this is not put to best use picking delicate daisies and floating around aimlessly on a sea of dreams, as Mars was more inclined to do whilst in Pisces.Mars in Pisces - Eternal Affectations
Now Mars is blasting, firing and eating heartily from the ceramic or metal bowl forged by his own might, to his own taste and much more his forte and inclination.
Now Mars is blasting, firing and eating heartily from the ceramic or metal bowl forged by his own might, to his own taste and much more his forte and inclination.
Mars the planet of action will be driven to stand up and defend those less able or down trodden. We may find ourselves impetuously making a stand on someone’s behalf, striding into another persons conflict engagement without a moments contemplation of consequence or effect, all we know is that we must and can do the right thing. With this extra dosage of courage, impulse, rash bravado or just bravery we may race into taking direct action. This is that time of year when ‘the red mist’ may descend more easily over our eyes as we literally have times when we simply ‘see red’.
Mars love a good fight, and whilst it was in compassionate and imaginative Pisces some real battles played out on the global stage. Loss, resignation and religion are very Piscean words and the Catholic world ‘lost' its spiritual leader with Pope Benedict announcing his own early retirement leaving the Catholic church facing a resignation for the first time in 600 years. This was most unprecedented and subsequently set up maneuverings and politicking behind closed doors and out of view and again, very Piscean. As Mars moved into Aries a new Pope was chosen after a relatively quick conclave, setting a number of ‘firsts’, such as his name, Francis the 1st, the first South American Pope, the first Jesuit Pope, all very pioneering and getting into a very Aries mood.
Then there was the tragic blending of romance and death involving the South African, para-Olympian athlete, 'Blade Runner', Oscar Pistorius and his well loved girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp. The world was utterly mystified and bewildered as it watched the unfolding events of a wounded man in court charged with killing his beautiful and glamorous girlfriend in their en-suite bathroom next to a fully armed bedroom and claiming mistaken identity. 'Playful tiff' or full on attack can be difficult to watch.
TV Chef Nigella Lawson silenced by husband Advertising Mogul/Art Patron Charles Saatchi, Mars in Aries
'From Domestic Goddess to Domestic Violence' in a shocking public display, described and played down as a 'playful tiff' by millionaire copywriter Saatchi, who received a Police caution on the 17th June 2013 and with neighbours subsequently 'reporting' the couple as having a 'volatile' relationship.
Facing a situation with Mars in Aries ready for full on face-to-face engagement may be tough. Whilst part of the picture is planning, thinking and preparing, in essence Mars wants to move, to spring into action, to flex its muscles. Mars in Aires wants to prove itself by defending the weak, taking up a cause, being a knight in shiny bright armour, winning every battle and being the hero.
Mars in Aries may function at the social level making sure everyone in its group is treated fairly, it may function in the personal level making sure that you are treated with respect or it may function on the universal where large groups face a head on battle over some cause or other. Our ardour and heat may rise, we may rush in like naïve fools only to turn round and find ourselves alone and standing in stark contrast to the surroundings like a white silhouette against the dark background. We will utterly believe, in ourselves in our project in our latest enthusiasm, in our current cause, and most especially in the good of others. This can turn out to be extremely positive as things will appear very black or white and easily identified but equally this could mean difficulties could rapidly escalate and spiral out of control or simply be denied.

Comic/Presenter Dara O'Briain has Mars in Aries
The Astrological Association of Great Britain has complained about comments made on the BBC's programme Stargazing Live. According to The Guardian, the organisation is unhappy about remarks made by Dara O'Briain and Brian Cox on the show. O'Brien said: 'Let's get this straight once and for all, astrology is rubbish' Cox replied: 'In the interests of balance on the BBC, yes, astrology is nonsense.'
Check out the Aries zone in your own chart. This area will have the passing of the Knight In Shining Armour through it.This is where we will be urged to act as the have-a-go hero.
Used wisely this energy can be very healthy, much needed, profound and powerful.
For instance if through your 6th zone you could come to the defense of a work colleague or you could try to save an animal from suffering. Going through any part of a chart, if misused this energy can just end up behaving wildly and completely out of control..

Or is it passing through your 4th zone of home and family and you need to don your painting/ decorating gear and spark up those DIY tools. Conversely used more negatively you could simply just anger and inflame situations rather then calm them down. You might easily get the wrong end of the stick and charge off waving your arms at the wrong windmill. Moving through your 11th zone of people you value as friends just may erupt into some previously unheard charged hostility. Through your 7th house zone and a partner may kick off over something seemingly trivial but which enrages them into a short-lived but explosive tirade. We can all use the power of Mars to motor us through to our goals, to ignite our passions, fuel our issues and drive us ever onwards. During this time we may come to be a hero or champion of a worthy cause or movement facing the primal urges.
Comic/Actor Russell Brand has Mars in Aries 'He's a really big deal, I'm told this...'
As one of 'Thatchers children' he writes in the Guardian, 'The blunt, pathetic reality today is that a little old lady has died, who in the winter of her life had to water roses alone under police supervision. If you behave like there's no such thing as society, in the end there isn't. Her death must be sad for the handful of people she was nice to and the rich people who got richer under her stewardship. It isn't sad for anyone else...It always struck me as peculiar, too, when the Spice Girls briefly championed Thatcher as an early example of girl power. I don't see that. She is an anomaly; a product of the freak-onomy of her time. Barack Obama, interestingly, said in his statement that she had "broken the glass ceiling for other women". Only in the sense that all the women beneath her were blinded by falling shards. She is an icon of individualism, not of feminism.' Guardian 9th April 2013
In Britain on the 15th March, 2013 it was Red Nose Day, a time when the Great British public let their inhibitions loose and enjoyed a laugh or two in order to raise money for charities and causes around the world. We all have the potential to make a fool of ourselves, take on physical challenges or just donate money to others who have chosen to go to work in their pyjamas or work the checkout in a supermarket dressed up as Little Bo Peep. Heros, one and all, shepherds for life perhaps, not just for a day. Occasionally perhaps we all wonder where did we put those sheep or want to just ride free, jump all the fences and shadow box our own demons.
